Buy a special tree, help a special cause

The 49th Annual Festival of Trees every year holds a silent auction of creatively adorned holiday trees, including the one below from photographer Kim Taylor Reece.

Other "celebritree" designs up for auction are from such local luminaries as fashion designer Anne Namba, actor Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, former first lady Vicky Cayetano and University of Hawai'i men's football coach June Jones.

And there's a practically a whole forest of Christmas trees from a slew of media types who lent their talents to the cause.

The event takes place 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. tomorrow and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Ward Warehouse's Kaka'ako and Kewalo rooms.

The annual festival also includes a holiday bazaar of handmade gifts.

Don't forget the good cause behind it all. This year, The Queen's Medical Center Auxiliary's annual fund-raiser will support the purchase of new neuroscience-unit equipment. Call 547-4397.
