Hawai'i-Hilo basketball drops Hawai'i Pacific to 0-6 on year

Joe Travis scored 16 points to lead six teammates in double-figures as Hawai'i-Hilo beat Hawai'i Pacific, 85-76, in a non-conference basketball game last night at Blaisdell Arena.
Hilo improved to 5-2, while HPU dropped to 0-6.
Justin Griffin and Ryan Abrahams each scored 15, Terrance Troupe added 13, Alex Cabagnot had 12 and Ryan Hogue 10 for Hilo.
Troupe had 10 rebounds and Cabagnot had six assists.
The Vulcans were 23 of 31 from the free-throw line, while the Sea Warriors made 9 of 10.
Hilo was 30 of 62 from the field, while HPU was 29 of 67, including 9 of 18 from 3-point range.
Aaron Abrams scored 27 points and Marvin Noble added 21 for HPU. Both made 3 of 6 3-point attempts.
SURFING
Rip Curl postponed: The Rip Curl Cup men's surfing contest was postponed yesterday due to declining wave heights at Sunset Beach.
The contest is expected to run its final day of competition either today or tomorrow at Sunset Beach.
Five Hawai'i surfers are among the 32 still in contention: Andy Irons, Kalani Robb, Shane Dorian, Love Hodel and Joel Centeio.
The contest is the second of three in the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing series.

TENNIS
Aloha Airlines Juniors: Nearly 200 of Hawai'i's best juniors will play in the 16th annual Aloha Airlines Junior Championships this weekend at the Central O'ahu Regional Park Tennis Complex. The tournament is Hawai'i's only invitational for top juniors. Players qualify in Novice, Intermediate and Grand Prix divisions at a series of statewide qualifying tournaments during the year.
Qualifiers include Julienne Yamamoto, Jessica Broadfoot, Andy Narido, Colin Fujishige and Kelly Ann Nakamura.
Play begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow and Sunday. There is no admission charge.
