Aloha Airlines to discuss costs

Aloha Airlines officials will meet Monday with the heads of the House committees on tourism and finance and with legislators from the Big Island to discuss the rising cost of interisland air travel.

Legislators asked for the meeting in response to fares that sometimes cost $200 per round trip. Lawmakers hope to have a similar meeting with Hawaiian Airlines.

"We have families who need to attend funerals, even baby lu'aus, and they simply can't afford the cost of making the trip," said Jerry Chang, chairman of the House Tourism Committee.

Volunteer gets national award

The SCORE Association will present its highest national award for volunteer service to Bob Souza, a counselor with the group's Hawai'i chapter since 1993.

Souza also serves as SCORE's cyberchapter chairman. His e-mail counseling service has had "an immeasurable positive impact on our ability to serve small business owners," said SCORE chief executive Ken Yancey.

SCORE is a nonprofit that provides educational and counseling services.
