Prayer group in Chinatown

At least a dozen people are meeting monthly as a group in the Chinatown Prayer Project, and the next gathering will be at 3 p.m. tomorrow at the corner of River and Kukui streets.

The organizer of the gatherings, Troye Levin, offered this assessment of Chinatown: "From a Christian standpoint, it's God and Jesus vs. the devil. We pray against the desperation we find there."

She said undesirable aspects of Chinatown include addiction, prostitution and homelessness. The group, which started in October and meets monthly, gathers on different street corners.

The core group from Hope Chapel has others joining in, including clergy, she said.

"We're not praying at anyone," Levin said.

"We're praying to bring God's love into Chinatown."
