THE LEFT LANE
Cool contender

Advertiser Staff

Here's to Hawai'i never being short of hotties. And this one's for the girls:

Sunset Beach boy TJ Barron, 17, is a contender for YM magazine's Last Boy Standing contest, featuring 12 teens from across the United States and Canada. All are featured in the January 2004 issue.

YM readers can learn about their favorite guy each month, then vote online to keep him for the next issue. The last boy standing will be named in the December 2004 issue.

"I'm very excited," said Barron, a student at Leeward Community College. To keep TJ around, vote for him at ym.com/lastboy.

'City' fashioner visits

When Sarah Jessica Parker wears something on "Sex and the City," fashionistas all across the country clamor to possess it. That's how jewelry designer Lizzie Scheck's horseshoe necklace became so popular. Scheck will visit Honolulu to meet folks at Neiman Marcus Ala Moana and help them choose appropriate pieces from her fashion jewelry collection. Scheck will be at the store from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and 1 to 6 p.m. tomorrow.

North Pole bulletin

Children sending off a letter to Santa can now get a personal reply — with a little help from the Postal Service. Here's how it works: Parents help the tots prepare their list for Santa. Then, when the child is elsewhere, write a personal response. If the child might recognize the handwriting, ask a friend to write it. Place the response in a stamped envelope addressed to the child, including a North Pole return address. Put that envelope inside a larger one and mail it to North Pole Christmas Cancellation, Postmaster, 5400 Mail Trail, Fairbanks, AK 99709-9998.

The Postal Service will apply a postmark — North Pole, Alaska — to the letter and deliver it back.

Write early. Letters need to be in Fairbanks by next Monday.
