Kaimuki power outage snarls traffic

A power failure in Kaimuki left 1,200 households in the dark and snarled traffic for about an hour and a half yesterday.

Hawaiian Electric Co. spokes-man Jose Dizon said that because traffic lights were affected, police officers directed motorists at intersections along Harding and Wai-'alae avenues.

The power went out about 4:15 p.m. and was restored about 5:45 p.m., Dizon said.

He said the problem was in an underground line.
