Pac-Five linemen bound for UH

DUSTIN PILIALOHA

DANIEL PAILEULU

Pac-Five head football coach Joe Onosai said Wolfpack linemen Daniel Paileulu and Dustin Pilialoha are committed to playing for the University of Hawai'i football team next year.

Both attend Word of Life, where Onosai, a former UH and pro football offensive lineman, is the school's pastor.

Onosai said Paileulu and Pilialoha are scheduled to take official recruiting trips to UH in January. But Onosai said, "They're set on staying home. Their dreams have always been to play for the Warriors."

Paileulu, who is 6 feet 3 and 290 pounds, was used mostly on the offensive line this season, although he is projected to play defensive tackle in college.

Pilialoha, who is 6 feet 2 and 330 pounds, is an offensive lineman.

Of the two, Paileulu has the more intriguing background. Onosai said Paileulu was "always getting into trouble" before he joined Word of Life's outreach program for inner-city youths three years ago. At the time, Paileulu was attending Farrington High. But he was struggling academically and "he never went out for the football team," Onosai said.

Onosai said Paileulu has the "potential to be another Isaac" — Isa'ako Sopoaga, UH's all-conference defensive tackle from American Samoa.

"He's definitely one guy who requires double blocking," said Onosai, noting Paileulu can bench press 400 pounds.

Yesterday, two UH coaches met with Paileulu and Pilialoha.

"I'm proud of them," Onosai said. "I know they'll be future stars for UH."
