Afamasaga propels West to 30-15 victory

By Wes Nakama
Advertiser Staff Writer

Little-known Nanakuli High School receiver Jimmy Afamasaga caught four passes for 97 yards and two touchdowns last night to lead the West All-Stars to a 30-15 victory over the East in the Hawai'i Union Builders Foundation Good will Classic.

An Aloha Stadium crowd of 2,492 braved intermittent showers and watched the West jump out to a 24-7 halftime lead, with Afamasaga catching a 7-yard TD pass from Punahou quarterback John Morris to make it 12-0 with 47 seconds remaining in the first quarter, and snaring a 25-yard touchdown pass from Pearl City's Jensen Cabanero to make it 24-7 with 1:47 left in the half.

The West opened its lead to 30-7 on the first play of the fourth quarter on Morris' 17-yard touchdown pass to Buffanblu teammate Koa Duncan, and the East ended the scoring with Raynold Stowers of Iolani scoring on a 1-yard run with 7:56 left.
