THE LEFT LANE
Donations for deejays

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Musical Youth of Hawaii needs a few good pieces of DJ equipment.

A nonprofit after-school program that teaches teenagers 13 to 17 years old music, video and radio production, and DJ skills, free of charge, MYOF is seeking donations of used equipment for two new schools.

On its wish list: turntables, microphones, DJ & audio mixers, computers, amps, speakers, keyboards, drum machines, records and CDs. Call director James Coles at 275-1005. MYOF will be happy to pick up donations.

Spam on wheels

Hawai'i folk are accustomed to watching eagerly each year for the barge that brings us Christmas trees. This year, we've got another barge to look out for: The one that's bringing the Hormel Spammobile to the Islands for the first time.

The 28-foot-long lunch wagon is so big it's built on a trolley car chassis; it's one of three that roam the nation. The vehicles appear at stores, festivals, sporting events and concerts where Spambassadors pass out itty-bitty Spamburgers (grilled Spam on cut-up hot-dog buns), discount coupons and other promotional materials. The Spammobile will be on O'ahu from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15 and will visit stores and meet with kids in after-school Read Aloud America programs.
