Firefighter wins employee honor
Charles Griep, a firefighter with the Honolulu Fire Department, has been named City Employee of the Year. A firefighter since March 1994, he has developed HFD's Rehabilitation Program, ensuring the physical and mental fitness of fire personnel. The program has also reduced injuries and workers' compensation claims. He has also saved the department thousands of dollars in consultant fees by teaching a Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Level I course, using certifications obtained on his personal time and expense.
Boisse Correa, Metropolitan Assistant Chief for the Honolulu Police Department, has been named Manager of the Year for 2003. He has used his leadership skills to reduce overall property crime in his districts, which had been on the rise the year before.
