HPU wins first game of season

Aaron Abrams scored 29 points and Audrius Peciukas added 17 as Hawai'i Pacific routed Notre Dame de Namur (Calif.), 83-65, last night at Mid-Pacific gym for its first victory of the season.

HPU is 1-7, Notre Dame de Namur 5-7.

Peciukas had a game-high 16 rebounds (14 defensive), while Abrams added 13.

Jason Billie scored 17 to lead Notre Dame de Namur.

• Hilo wins: Ryan Abrahams scored 32 points and Joe Travis added 17 to lead Hawai'i-Hilo to a 96-75 victory over Wayne State (Neb.) in the AmeriSport Coconut Coast Classic at Hilo.

Hilo is 7-2, Wayne State 6-5.

In another game, Cal State Monterey Bay defeated Milligan College, 70-61.

• Chaminade loses: Peter Bullock scored a game-high 28 points to lead Alaska-Anchorage to a 86-72 victory over Chaminade at McCabe Gym Monday night.

Anchorage is 8-2, Chaminade1-3.

• Chrisman honored: Forward Jake Chrisman of Brigham Young-Hawai'i was named Pacific West Conference Player of the Week.

Chrisman, a junior from Provo, Utah, scored 25 points in the Seasiders' 68-52 victory over Notre Dame de Namur last week. He also had five rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots and two steals.

Chrisman is second in PacWest scoring at 20.2 points per game.



BAYLOR

• Guard dismissed: Baylor junior guard Ellis Kidd Jr. has been dismissed from the program for violating team policy, coach Scott Drew said yesterday. Drew would not specify the violation.

Kidd had started all seven games this season, averaging 13.4 points.

The Bears are scheduled to play in Brigham Young-Hawai'i's Surf 'N Slam Tournament in La'ie, which starts on Friday.
