The Buzz

By Wayne Harada
Advertiser Entertainment Writer

• Busy as a bee: Jerry Seinfeld, who gives a comedy concert tomorrow night at the Waikiki Shell (only reserved seating was sold, not grass section, and tickets are long gone), will write, produce and star in an animated comedy feature, "Bee Movie," for DreamWorks Pictures. The buzz is that the film is set in an anthropomorphized world of bees.

• Kwanzaa time: A family festival, with make-and-take-home activities of African-American art, will be held 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 26-27 at The Academy Art Center, 1111 Victoria St. There are fees for the activities ($2 children, $5 adults), but demonstrations are free.

• On the radio: A locally-produced Christmas program, "Christmas in Story and Song," will air 8-9 a.m. Christmas Day on KIPO 89.3, featuring original songs and stories by Keith Haugen and performed by Haugen and his wife Carmen. The couple's "The Music of Hawai'i" radio show also airs 3-4 p.m. Sundays on KIPO.

• Thank you very much: Elvis Presley, who loved Hawai'i and did films here, will be remembered and celebrated by his fanship March 21-27, when "Elvis in Hawai'i" again is held. Rock Island Café is a center of all things of The King, and there will be tours, parties, social activities. Call 924-2994.

• The Prince and the Promoter: Marek Lieberberg, of Marek Lieberberg Presents (based in Germany, and very big in Europe), is one of the presenters of the Prince concerts (last Tuesday in Honolulu and tonight on Maui). His name is misspelled in the newspaper ads; you may remember him as the one who brought Celine Dion here. His associate, Jacky Jedlicki, is visiting (the family used to own a Maui home but now rents for the holidays).

• Eve-dropping: The Honolulu Symphony Orchestra, conducted by pops conductor Matt Catingub, again will provide ring-in-the-new year merriment at the Halekulani Hotel. You can hear 'em from both Orchids or La Mer. Happily, the big band sounds will have big voice: Jimmy Borges.'
