UH system schedules graduation ceremonies

Advertiser Staff

Several graduation ceremonies in the University of Hawai'i system will take place this weekend, highlighted by rites for Manoa graduates Sunday.

A total of 1,388 candidates will receive baccalaureate and advanced degrees from UH-Manoa beginning at 9 a.m. in the Stan Sheriff Center.

Beadie Kanahele Dawson, an advocate for Native Hawaiian rights, business leader, attorney and Manoa alumna, will be featured speaker. The student speaker will be Heidi Agunias, a candidate for a bachelor of science degree in travel industry management.

Campus parking is free on graduation day but congestion is common. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Doors to the arena will open at 8 a.m. for family and friends. When the arena has reached capacity, doors will be closed because of fire regulations.

Those arriving after the doors have been closed will be directed to Les Murakami Stadium where the ceremony will be broadcast via live feed.

The other ceremonies are:

• Today: Leeward Community College, 5 p.m., LCC Theatre; UH-Manoa School of Travel Industry Management, 5:30 p.m., Sheraton Princess Kaiulani's Robert Louis Stevenson Room.

• Tomorrow: UH-Hilo, 9 a.m., in the new gymnasium; UH-West O'ahu, 9 a.m., at Leeward Community College's Tuthill Courtyard.
