Mark trial jury to meet again

A Circuit Court jury will resume deliberations this morning in the case of Shane Mark, who is accused of shooting at two men Feb. 1 in a church parking lot and then fatally shooting police officer Glen Gaspar on March 4 as Gaspar was attempting to arrest him in connection with the first incident.

Yesterday marked the second full day of deliberations for the jury of eight men and four women.

If convicted of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Gaspar, Mark would face a mandatory sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

Odometer fraud arrest made

A Honolulu man was arrested yesterday on charges in a Dec. 2 indictment accusing him of odometer fraud and selling used cars without a license. John L. Florence, who also goes by Ken Williams and Thomas Clarke, also faces two counts of operating a motor vehicle after his license had been revoked for drunken driving.

Florence was charged with multiple counts of misrepresenting the mileage indicated on 1995 and 1997 Dodge Caravans. He is also accused of forging the title of a vehicle.

Florence could not be reached yesterday to comment on the charges.

Individuals who believe they may have been a victim of an "odometer rollback scam" are urged to call police or state investigators at the Department of the Attorney General, 586-1240.
