Mother, toddler wish for couch, clothes

"Y.W." and her young daughter live in a small apartment furnished with only a loveseat and chair.
The loveseat is old and dirty. "I can't get rid of it," Y.W. said, "because it's the only thing we have to sleep on. I don't want my daughter to have to sleep on the floor."
It has been an emotionally rough period for 25-year-old Y.W. Her father died earlier this year and her mother is being treated for depression. She's also not fully recovered from losing a child at birth three years ago.
Y.W. survives on welfare and food stamps and Christmas is a sad and lonely time for her.
A couch or loveseat and clothes for her daughter (size 2-3 toddler) will brighten her holiday spirits.
Our anonymous Santa has generously offered once again this year to match the first $25 of each donation to the Christmas Fund. Checks made payable to "The Advertiser Christmas Fund" should be mailed to Helping Hands Hawai'i, P.O. Box 17780, Honolulu, HI 96817.
Monetary donations may be dropped off at any First Hawaiian Bank branch. Anyone wishing to donate goods instead of money can do so at the Community Clearinghouse at 2100 N. Nimitz Highway, near Pu'uhale Road. For details, call 440-3804.
