Tractor-trailer driver killed

A Big Island man was killed yesterday morning after the semi tractor trailer rig he was driving ran off the road and into a ravine in South Kohala.

The driver, Roger Gaspar, 39, of Honaunau, was pronounced dead at Kona Community Hospital.

Gaspar was driving west on Kawaihae Road (Route 19) when his 1984 Freightliner tractor-trailer went out of control, ran off the road and plunged down a 30-foot embankment about 0.1 miles east of the 64imile marker.
