SHOW BIZ
By Wayne Harada

'Twas the morning of Christmas,
And all through the 'aina,
Santa was delivering
From Honolulu to Lahaina.
His shopping was pau,
His bare feet all sore.
His gift list was special,
Chock full of folklore.
The task was real easy
For Gov. Linda Lingle.
A red suit and white beard
(Just like Kris Kringle).
For Jeremy Harris,
Only legitimate donors.
To avoid allegations
From scrutinizing moaners.
For Jordan Segundo,
That album, at last.
And sales like Clay Aiken's
(In other words: fast!).
For Jimmy Borges,
Our favorite crooner,
A Frank Sinatra songbook,
Not later, but sooner.
For Jim Nabors, gollee,
An orchestra that stays
For his entire yule concert
To share in the hoorays.
For Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom,
More gigging, more cheers.
And maybe more Hoku wins
As award time nears.
For Willie K, the blues
(It's one of his faves).
For Jake Shimabukuro,
Real simple: more raves.
For Herb Ohta Jr.
And Ohta-san, too,
Nonbreaking uke strings
Are long overdue.
No CD miscues
For Keali'i Reichel.
And why not a show
At the Waikiki Shell?
For Robert and Roland,
More Lei Day aloha.
And hair flowers galore
For Karen and Kealoha.
A free companion ticket
For the Eddie Kamaes
So he can board his 'ukulele
Whenever he flies.
A Grand Ol' Opry gig
For Melveen Leed.
It eluded her this year.
Auwe. Indeed.
A stadium blow-out
For Divine Bette Midler.
But she hates hometown shows,
So how's that for a riddler?
More "Rainbow" exposure
For beloved Bruddah Iz.
He's still on a roll
In the movie-music biz.
For news anchor Joe Moore,
An original stage play.
One without controversy, please,
Would surely make his day.
New hits for Cataluna, Kneubuhl and Sakamoto;
Plus Y York and Kearns
And, naturally,
Matsumoto.
Some rest and peace
For "retired" Ron Bright.
We all are indebted
He hasn't turned off his light.
Box-office biggies
For our theatrical crew,
Like Vanita, Dwight, Harry,
For all that they do.
For Deena and John,
For Joyce, Mark and Burton,
For Paliku and TAGers,
SRO ... raise the curtain.
For "Phantom" Cris Groenandal
And "Les Miz's" Craig Schulman,
A concert homecoming
Would truly "rule," man.
For Perry & Price,
The morning drive pair,
Good fortune, great crowds
At their new John Dominis lair.
For Adam Sandler,
More movies here, please?
For Charo, a homecoming
To buy? To lease?
A cartoon series
For Don "Bubbles" Ho.
For "Lilo & Stitch,"
Another movie "go."
A beachfront mansion
For Cameron and Justin.
For stadium fans, Elton,
Tho' the joint is all rusting?
A Hawai'i winner, please,
On "American Idol."
For J-Lo and Affleck,
Kaua'i thoughts: Think bridal?
Harmonies unending
For those Na Leo sweeties.
For Glenn Medeiros,
New romantic ditties?
For Kimo and Carole,
Enduring "Hawai'i Stars."
For Jack Law of Hula's,
Night crowds, bigger bars.
For Yvonne Elliman,
A singing spree (whee!).
And comedy supremacy
For Lanai, Augie T.
For Andy and Ray,
The Bumatai crew,
A prime-time TV show
With laughs and frou-frou.
For Jeff Apaka,
More Waikiki "Treasures."
For "Kawika" Copperfield,
More magical pleasures.
For Auntie Genoa,
More "Alika" highs.
For dieting Frank DeLima?
Easy. Thinner thighs.
For Donne, Marilyn, Tiffani,
Benita and Walea:
A big movie-shoot season
Over heah and over deah.
For Jack Johnson,
An annual at-home jam.
Good health for Kit Samson,
And for Lina and Sam.
For Millie and Fran,
More mealing together.
For Shari, Paul, Justin, Guy:
Forecasting good weather.
For Emme Tomimbang
And Pamela Young:
Great TV stories,
Some spoken, some sung.
For the new, lean Lisa,
A closet full of new clothes.
For The Rock, "that" movie
Sans Kamehameha foes.
More time at home
For cutie Hoku Ho;
For comic Paul Ogata?
Just height. No?
A Mardi Gras trip
For venerable Jack Cione.
For QB Tim Chang?
A receiver in the end zone.
For Fran Kakugawa,
Our Hawai'i Kai writer,
Your words and wisdom
Have made our lives brighter.
Waikiki visibility
For Danny Couch.
More slots, too, for Loretta:
A "Somebody" who's no slouch.
Hot films, hot stars
For Rivers and Boller.
For Waterson and Bernal,
Finding a rock 'n' roller.
For Aaron, Edgy and Eric
More stories, more films.
More fund raising. Yikes.
For Forte, Imua,
Kapena, Kanilau,
Chart-busting releases;
Ditto Pali and Na'auao.
Gold records, too,
For Cecilio and Kapono,
Keali'i, Keola, 'Alea
Would be ho'opono.
More Nippon visits
For The Makaha Sons.
Well wishes and prayers
For Leina'ala. Tons.
Golf clubs for
That Kaleikini, Dan.
For John Hirokawa,
A Las Vegas gig. Can?
For Jack and Cha Thompson,
Mo'opuna galore.
For Afatia and Reign?
A new CD ... lots more.
For one time, maybe,
An SOS twin bill
Of the original and spin-off?
Oh, what a thrill.
More home vacations
For Kevin I.
For the singing Hongos?
A best-seller is nigh.
For Ann Asakura,
Crafts to da max.
For Baltazar and Paulo,
A shiny new sax.
A TV special for Ho'okena,
Chant, Rhythm Klub they move!
Plus a pop plate with Ten Feet,
Opihi Pickers and Tapa Groove?
For Hapa, Olomana
And Peter Espiritu,
An outing together
Just might do.
Packed houses, 'ono food
For Roy, Keo, Wayne, Chai;
For Russell, D.K., Sam,
And Mavro ... banzai!
For inventive Conjugacion
And imaginative Makana,
May your vision endure.
Please, no pau hana.
For keyboarders Betty,
Tim, Ron and Jay:
Keep tickling those ivories
And have a happy day.
And for the exotica king,
The endearing Martin Denny,
Good wishes and happiness
For you, too, Ed Kenney.
For Tom, Tim and Bob
And the Goldenvoice crew:
Shows that sell out
Only black ink. Whew!
A penthouse with a view
For confetti-tossing Rip.
A booming Hollywood biz here
Would be Chris Lee's "trip."
A celebrity pipeline
For Andrea and Blaise
(They work with the studios
And merit some praise).
For local boy Dean Pitchford,
More musicals, more hits.
For Moloka'i's Darrell Labrado,
More MTV blitz.
For Akina and the opera,
Why not Domingo?
For new TV reporters,
A guide to our lingo?
For Landovksy, Taylor-Tongg,
For Ing and for Wright,
A joint "Nutcracker" spectacle
Could really take flight.
And for you, dear readers,
You, Mr., you, Ms.,
Season's aloha to all,
And that's Christmas Show Biz. ...
