How Hawai'i hotels are faring

A major Jehovah's Witnesses convention attracted over 12,000 out-of-state visitors to O'ahu, lifting the island's hotel occupancy by 40.2 percent to 74.3 percent for the week ended Saturday, according to Hospitality Advisors LLC. Statewide hotel occupancy also enjoyed a 29.7 percent increase to 62.9 percent. Statewide room rates declined slightly by 0.6 percent from the previous year to $134.05. Maui's hotel occupancy showed a 20 percent gain to 55.7 percent and held the highest room rate at $177.47.
