Player to watch: Zakee Wadood has scored more than 1,000 points in his ETSU career, and leads the team this season in scoring, rebounding, steals (3.78 per game) and blocked shots (2.22 per game).
Basketball history: The Buccaneers were a No. 15 seed in the NCAA Tournament last season, and lost to No. 2 Wake Forest, 76-73, in the first round.
Good to know: All five starters return from last season’s 20-11 team, but head coach Ed DeChellis moved on to become head coach at Penn State.
Leftovers: The Buccaneers are ranked No. 5 in the latest ESPN.com’s Mid-Major Top 10. ... ETSU last played in Hawai‘i during the 1989-90 season, when it went 2-1 in the Chaminade Christmas Tournament. ... ETSU is the first team from the Southern Conference to participate in the Rainbow Classic. ... Murry Bartow was head coach at Alabama-Birmingham when former Hawai‘i star Predrag Savovic played there as a freshman in 1997-98.

Player to watch: Odell Bradley is one of only five players in NCAA Division I averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds per game. He has five statistical double-doubles so far this season.
Basketball history: The Jaguars joined NCAA Division I basketball during the 1997-98 season. Last season, they went to the NCAA Tournament for the first time, losing to No. 1 seed Kentucky, 95-64, in the first round.
Good to know: The initials stands for Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis, but the school lists its official name as IUPUI.
Leftovers: IUPUI last played in Hawai‘i during the 1995-96 season, when it went 2-0 in Hawai‘i-Hilo’s Coconut Coast Classic. ... IUPUI’s three losses this season were on the road at Vanderbilt, Dayton and West Virginia — teams that have a combined record of 23-4. ... The Jaguars have never played any of the other seven teams in this year’s Rainbow Classic.

Player to watch: Terrell Petteway has four games this season with double-digit rebounds. In 74 previous games over the last three seasons, he never grabbed more than nine rebounds in a game.
Basketball history: Billy Tubbs went 75-46 as head coach at Lamar from 1976-80. After head coaching stints at Oklahoma and TCU, he returned to Lamar as athletic director in 2002, then also became basketball coach this year.
Good to know: Earlier this month, Billy Tubbs became the 28th men’s coach to reach 600 career NCAA victories.
Leftovers: Billy Tubbs has an all-time record of 6-4 against Hawai‘i, including 1-1 as coach of Lamar. ... The Cardinals went 0-3 in the 1991 Maui Invitational in their last trip to Hawai‘i. ... At Lamar home games, fans receive free Kentucky Fried Chicken when the Cardinals score at least 100 points. They have reached it twice this season.
Head coach: Riley Wallace (267-218, 17th season at UH)

Rainbow Classic history: 61-56 in 39 previous appearances
Player to watch: Haim Shimonovich was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2001 Rainbow Classic. In six career Rainbow Classic games, he is averaging 11.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 blocked shots.
Basketball history: The Rainbow Warriors have won eight Rainbow Classic championships, including the last two. No team has ever won three straight.
Good to know: Hawai‘i is 41-3 in its last 44 games in the Stan Sheriff Center.
Leftovers: Hawai‘i is 29-10 on the opening night of the Rainbow Classic, including 14-2 with Wallace as head coach. ... The Hawai‘i roster features players from six different countries, including six states in America. ... Among the eight teams in this year’s Rainbow Classic, Hawai‘i is the only team not making its first appearance in the tournament.

Good to know: Ten different players have started games for the Falcons this season. A same starting five has not been used in consecutive games this season.
Leftovers: Bowling Green defeated Hawai‘i, 53-49, to win the Pepsi One/Nextel Challenge at the Stan Sheriff Center in 1999. ... Two players, Cole Magner and Keon Newson, did not make the trip to Hawai‘i because they played with the Bowling Green football team in yesterday’s Motor City Bowl. ... Player to watch: Deng Gai, who is from Sudan, leads all NCAA Division I players with 5.7 blocked shots per game. He is averaging 4.2 blocked shots per game in his career.
Basketball history: The Stags have had just three winning seasons since 1986, yet have advanced to the NCAA Tournament twice and the NIT twice during that time.
Good to know: The Fairfield men’s basketball program has a 100 percent graduation rate during Tim O’Toole’s tenure as head coach.
Leftovers: Fairfield, which is located in Connecticut, is playing in Hawai‘i for the first time. The last time the Stags traveled west of the Mississippi River was 1999. ... The Stags have already played three overtime games this season, beating St. John’s and George Washington, and losing to Fordham. Their last game was a 75-67 overtime victory over George Washington on Tuesday.

Player to watch: Glen McGowan is the team’s leading scorer and rebounder. He was a reserve player as a freshman and sophomore, then redshirted last season because of a knee injury and a blood clot in his left arm.
Basketball history: Paul Westphal was a five-time NBA all-star guard, and was head coach for the Phoenix Suns and Seattle SuperSonics before taking over Pepperdine in 2001.
Good to know: The Waves are one of six teams in NCAA Division I without a senior on its roster.
Leftovers: Pepperdine went 1-2 in the Pearl Harbor Classic hosted by BYU-Hawai‘i in 1998. It was the last time the Waves played in Hawai‘i. ... Pepperdine beat American, 54-50, in 1950. It was the only time the teams have ever met. ... Glen McGowan scored on a slam dunk with two seconds remaining to lead the Waves to an 81-80 home victory over Bradley last Saturday.

Rainbow Classic history: First appearance
Player to watch: Point guard Andres Rodriguez is averaging 6.8 assists per game. No other player on the team is averaging more than one assist per game. Rodriguez, who is from Puerto Rico, is also considered the team’s best defender.
Basketball history: The Eagles have not had a 20-win season since 1982-83, and its last postseason appearance was in the 1981 NIT.
Good to know: American University has students from approximately 165 countries. The basketball team has players from Puerto Rico, Lithuania, Cameroon, Slovenia and Canada, as well as five different American states.
Leftovers: American, which is located in Washington, D.C., is making its first trip to Hawai‘i. ... The Eagles have already played seven road games this season, including a 78-74 loss at Notre Dame on Sunday. Andre Ingram had a season-high 23 points and six rebounds in the loss.
