RUSSELL Y.J. CHUNG, executive vice president and principal at local landscape architectural design and planning firm, PBR Hawaii, has been inducted as a fellow into the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA). Chosen for the organization's highest designation for his service to his profession, he is the only professional from Hawai'i to receive the designation this year, and is believed to be the first Korean American so honored. Chung has volunteered with ASLA over 17 years, promoting landscape architecture and expanding opportunities for practitioners in Hawai'i. For the past six years, he has served as trustee of the local ASLA chapter, helping to create scholarships and to advocate a landscape architecture degree program at the University of Hawai'i. He has served as chairman of the Hawai'i State Board of Professional Engineers, Architects, Surveyors and Landscape Architects, and has been honored for work on the Ko Olina Resort, The Orchid at Mauna Lani and the urban design on Fort Street Mall. PBR Hawai'i has also been instrumental in such prominent local projects as Kaho'olawe use and the Diamond Head State Monument Master Plan.

CHARLES R. "ROD" MILLER, a veteran with more than 20 years experience at Chaney, Brooks & Co. where he was senior associate, has joined Coldwell Banker Commercial Pacific Properties (CBC) in the same position. Miller specializes in office, industrial and investment properties. CBC's four major divisions — industrial, office, retail and property management — serve tenants, landlords, and sellers and buyers in leasing, acquisition, disposition and management of all commercial real-estate property types. Among the properties they represent as leasing agent and/or property manager are Pacific Guardian Center and Tower, and Kukui Grove Shopping Center.

CHARLES SLOGGETT has joined American Savings Bank as a financial consultant, serving the bank's branches in eastern Kaua'i. Previously he was a registered investment adviser with First Allied Securities Inc. in Lihu'e, working with retirement and life insurance planning.

ALEXANDER HAMILTON STUART has joined Hawaiian koa furniture manufacturer Martin & MacArthur as chief operating officer and distribution division manager. In his latter capacity, he will direct the company's supply operation for woodworkers, picture framers and retail stores. Before joining Martin & MacArthur, Stuart owned and operated a consulting firm specializing in managing acquisitions for offshore investors. In 1991, he was appointed executive general manager for the Americas by the Australian Trade Commission, overseeing export development programs in 12 cities in seven countries.

• PacificBasin Communications, publishers of Honolulu, Hawaii Business, Hawaii Home + Remodeling, and Pacific magazines, has announced the following appointments: MANDY LUI has joined PacificBasin as traffic coordinator of Honolulu magazine, replacing CARYN YU who joined the sales team of Hawaii Home + Remodeling magazine. Previously, Lui was media assistant at Ogilvy and Mather public relations. MEREDITH LOW, former senior account executive at Hawaii Business Magazine, was promoted to ad director of the magazine. ALISON WONG, former account executive with Hawaii Home + Remodeling Magazine, has been named by PacificBasin as account executive of Hawaii Business Magazine.

MARK WASIELEWSKI, who was hired in August last year as coordinator of client support services for The Queen's Medical Center lab managed by Diagnostic Laboratory Services, has been promoted by Diagnostic Labs to manage its core lab. Before joining the company, Wasielewski was technical coordinator at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
