When asked to name their style icons this year, Fashion Forum members didn't place Gwyneth Paltrow or Kate Moss or Chloe Sevigny at the top of their lists. Instead, the first name mentioned was Bev Noa, the elegant, understated hula dancer, retail manager and tutu.

Noa and her fashion sense will have a part in a hula-themed tribute to Queen Emma Friday at Kahala Mall: Noa donated a dance costume designed by Richard Goodwin in the 1970s in the style of Queen Emma's blue-velvet riding costume to the troupe Ka Hale I o Kahala Halau Hula, which performs at 10 a.m. Information: 736-7736.

Name: Beverly Noa.

Age: 70.

Occupation: retired retail manager, dancer.

What I'm looking for right now: something soft and silky but casual. Appropriate for Island weddings, cocktails or dinner.

The best bargain I ever found was: a great blouse at a resale shop.

I'm willing to pay more for top quality when it comes to: classic, timeless pieces — jackets, pants, shoes.

I can never get enough: white shirts. I have a closet full of them.

My favorite designers are: Chanel, Calvin Klein, Armani and Theory for pants.

My favorite places to shop are: The GAP, Neiman Marcus and small specialty shops.

Three women who inspire me are: Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie O. They were always true to themselves and to the image they projected. They were comfortable with their choices.

My fashion philosophy: Fashion should be fun. I don't take it too seriously. I don't pay that much attention to it. I love classic and tailored, but with an edge — not boring old classic. Maybe something that's not perfect, just to make it different. For example, what I'm wearing today is classic, but I go off the edge with the big earrings instead of predictable dainty pearls. I'm a tiny person, but I love big, bold accessories.

I'm wearing: Chanel cotton twin sweater set, Theory cotton pants, my favorite fashion watch and earrings designed by my daughter-in-law, Kristen Kenney, whose line is called Celia Duke after my grandchildren, Celia and Duke.
