Kamehemeha Schools shortstop Sharee Fonoti has signed a national letter of intent to play softball for the University of Utah next season.
Fonoti, a second-team Advertiser All-State selection last season, led the Interscholastic League of Honolulu in batting with a .487 average.
She was a first-team Advertiser All-State selection in 2002 as a third baseman.
Fonoti moved over to shortstop last season in place of Ashley Ruff, who graduated in 2002 and now plays for the University of Hawai'i.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Raiders top Mustangs: Iolani outscored Kalaheo 15-2 in the fourth period last night to beat the Mustangs, 56-38, in the semifinals of the Punahou Holiday Classic.
The Raiders will face Kamehameha, a 57-53 winner over Punahou, in tonight's championship game at 7:30.
Kalaheo led 27-24 at halftime and trailed 41-38 after three quarters, but Ryan Hirata sank two 3-pointers in the final period to help Iolani pull away.
The Mustangs' Sam Wilhoite led all scorers with 22 points. Derrick Low led Iolani with 16 points.
The two teams have combined to win the past three state championships. Kalaheo won in 2001, while the Raiders won in 2002 and 2003.
