Let professionals light up tonight's sky

For a spectacular yet safe New Year's Eve, we recommend a public fireworks display. Here are some of the venues offering free explosive entertainment tonight:

• Aloha Tower Marketplace will feature a 12-minute aerial display at midnight at the pier. Pre-show entertainment includes Dita Holifield, John Cruz, Ilona Irvine, and Jeff Rasmussen and Friends, 9 p.m. Information: 566-2337.
• The Halekulani, Outrigger and Sheraton hotels will sponsor an 8- to 10-minute display at 12:01 a.m. off Waikiki Beach; 923-2311.
• Ihilani Resort and Spa's midnight display over the Ihilani Resort lagoon is primarily for hotel guests, but viewable from coastlines. 679-0079.
• The Kahala Mandarin Oriental Hawaii's 10- to 15-minute display will be at midnight off the hotel beach. 739-8888.
