IUPUI beats Pepperdine for third

 •  Rainbows claim Classic title
 •  Fairfield's Gai can't block out tough loss

Akeem Clark and Brandon Cole scored 18 points each as IUPUI beat Pepperdine, 76-72, last night in the third-place game of the Rainbow Classic at the Stan Sheriff Center.

Blair Crawford added 14 and Matt Crenshaw had 12 for IUPUI (7-4), which held off a late rally by Pepperdine (5-8).

The Waves were led by Terrance Johnson's 26 points and Alex Acker's 20.

Pepperdine had a chance to tie but Chase Griffin's runner in the lane fell short with two seconds left. IUPUI rebounded and Danmorris Harvey sealed the win by making two free throws.

Trailing by 12 midway through the second half, Pepperdine rallied behind Johnson's three 3-pointers. The Waves cut the lead to one point twice in the half, the last at 71-70 with three minutes left.

AMERICAN 71, ETSU 66

Linas Lekavicius came off the bench and scored 17 of his career-high 22 points in the first half as American University held off East Tennessee State to take fifth place.

Jernavis Draughn added 20 points and Andre Ingram 11 for the Eagles (5-7), who shot 46 percent (23 of 50) from the field. Tim Smith scored 15 and James Anthony 11 to lead ETSU (8-4).

Down by as many as 20 points in the second half, the Buccaneers rallied late in the game, closing to 66-61 on a free throw by Travis Strong with 1:24 remaining.

BOWLING GREEN 81, LAMAR 68

John Reimold set four career records, including a career-high 30 points, to lead Bowling Green past Lamar in the seventh-place game.

Reimold also set career bests in field goals made (11), field goals attempted (20) and 3-pointers (7). Ronald Lewis added 22 points and Steven Wright 13 for Bowling Green (4-7).

Teddy Davis scored 21 points to lead Lamar (6-6) and Blake Whittle added 16.
