A 41-year-old woman was struck by a car and killed as she crossed Farrington Highway near Leeward Community College yesterday.

Police said the woman had gotten off a city bus fronting the entrance to the college about 1:10 p.m. and tried to cross the highway. The woman, who was not in a crosswalk, ran in front of a 1988 Acura Integra driven by a 22-year-old Waipahu woman, police said.

Traffic investigators said the driver attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to do so. The woman was taken to Pali Momi Medical Center and was pronounced dead at 1:53 p.m.

None of the four people in the car was injured, police said.
