KIKU to air brief KHNL news updates

Advertiser Staff

KHNL TV, also known as News 8, has formed a partnership with KIKU TV (Channel 9, Oceanic 20) to provide weeknight news updates, starting today. The format will be 60-second news reports, at 8 and 9 p.m., on KIKU, prepared by the KHNL staff.

"We are excited to be able to extend our News8 news brand to the strong audience that KIKU provides," said John Fink, general manager of the NBC affiliate as well as sister channel KFVE (K5 the Home Team, which also is the WB station). "We hope that some viewers will then decide to tune in to News 8 at 10 for more complete news coverage."

Gregg Mueller, KIKU general manager, said, "We feel this is a win-win situation for viewers and both stations." The multi-cultural station does not have its own news department or local news presence.

Both stations will promote the partnership and KHNL has the ability to provide live coverage on KIKU "as needed," or whenever relevant, said Fink.
