Families in Xerox case sue estate of gunman's supervisor

The families of some of the Xerox Corp. workers who were shot to death in 1999 have filed a lawsuit claiming damages against the estate of company supervisor Melvin Lee, who was also killed in the shootings.

The lawsuit says Lee knew gunman Byran Uyesugi was dangerous and Lee could have done something to prevent the tragedy.

The families are seeking possible insurance money and not Lee's assets that were left to his family.

Defense attorneys, paid for by Xerox, said the case was filed too late and there is no insurance money to be claimed.

Uyesugi is serving a life prison term without parole for the killings of his co-workers. He shot the seven men as they were gathering for a meeting where they were going to discuss his work performance, prosecutors said.
