Advertiser Staff

Lisa Hansen allowed one hit in five innings and Laura Nelson and Heather Murray each drove in three runs to lead the Brigham Young-Hawai'i women's softball team past visiting Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.), 9-0, in the season opener for both teams.

The Seasiders scored three times in the first, third and fifth innings to end the game on the eight-run rule with two outs in the bottom of the fifth. Murray's bases-loaded triple in the fifth inning ended the game. Nelson, Crystal Elton and Michelle Gibson each had two hits for the Seasiders.

The two teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader at BYU-Hawai'i Field in La'ie, but a fire delay caused the cancellation of the first game.
