Man sought in bank holdup

Police have opened a second-degree robbery case after a holdup yesterday afternoon at the American Savings Bank Pearlridge branch.

The robber, described as a man about 5 feet 8 inches tall, allegedly approached the teller at 1:11 p.m. and handed over a note demanding money. The suspect indicated he had a gun but none was seen, police said.

He also is described as having a medium build, short dark hair, a mustache and goatee, and wore a white T-shirt, dark shorts, white visor and sunglasses.

Safecracking suspect caught

Police caught one of two burglars who allegedly attempted to break into a safe early yesterday at Players, a sports bar at 1442 University Ave.

An alarm that sounded at 4:30 a.m. brought officers to the scene where they saw a side door open and two men inside. The men allegedly fled and police caught one suspect, 22.

The manager told police the safe lock was damaged and there were signs of a search, according to police.
