Civil Defense nominee faces floor vote

Advertiser Staff

The governor's adjutant general nominee, Brig. Gen. Robert G.F. Lee, has received a nod of approval from the Senate Transportation, Military Affairs and Government Operations Committee.

Lee, who was appointed by Gov. Linda Lingle to lead the state's Department of Defense, now faces a confirmation vote by the full Senate. Monday was the first of what will be a parade of confirmation hearings for Lingle's Cabinet appointments, which require approval from the Senate.

More than a dozen people who offered testimony to the committee Monday supported Lee's nomination.

Lee, 54, will be director of state Civil Defense and head the Hawai'i National Guard. He most recently was responsible for Army reservists in Hawai'i, Alaska, Guam, Saipan, American Samoa, Japan and South Korea.
