Artists with disabilities to be featured

"Mother of Eleusis," 1998, by Daria Fand, will be on display during the "Arts Culture and Disability" workshops at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
In a continued effort to prove that creativity can be nurtured in all sorts of minds and bodies, the 19th annual Pacific Rim Conference, which runs tomorrow through Tuesday at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, features a series of "Arts Culture and Disability" workshops and presentations open to the public.

Activities include:

Tomorrow and Sunday

"Putting Creativity to Work: The Business of Being an Artist"— Two-day workshop on business and marketing skills for artists with disabilities, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday. Cost for conference nonparticipants: $20 for artists with disabilities (includes lunch); $60 for nonartists (space limited to 30).

Monday

"Arts for All, All for Arts" — An opening night reception featuring visual arts, music and theatrical performances. Performers include "Beethoven's Nightmare," a group of all-deaf musicians and Kanalu Young, 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Free.

Tuesday

"Artists Mean Business" — Workshop on promoting career opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities with Dr. Olivia Raynor of the National Arts and Disability Center, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost for conference nonparticipants: $30.

Registration for the entire four-day conference, which includes all presentations, workshops and strand events, is $200. Registration is available at the door.
