Symphony ball goes Casablanca

"As Time Goes By," the song popularized in the film "Casablanca," will be the theme of the 2003 Honolulu Symphony Ball, set for May 17 at the Hawaii Ballroom of the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.

The goal is to raise $435,000 to support youth concerts and youth education sponsored by the orchestra.

A Moroccan theme will prevail, in menu and decor.

Jan and Jim George are co-chairs of the event, which will include a silent auction with lots of items and services up for bid. The orchestra will perform under the baton of two maestros, Samuel Wong, conducting the MasterWorks orchestra, and Matt Catingub, who will lead the Honolulu Pops. A third band will provide dance music.

Tickets are $225. For reservations, call Chris Clothier at 524-0815, or e-mail cclothier@honolulusymphony.com.
