Chris George will start tonight's game on the mound for Hawai'i in its baseball season opener against UCLA, coach Mike Trapasso said.

Game time is 6:35.

Earlier in the week, George was being considered for Sunday's start to allow him some extra days to rest. George, a senior right-hander, was the Rainbows' top starter last year at 6-6 with a 5.91 earned run average.

Right-hander Colby Summer and left-hander Justin Cayetano or right-hander Ricky Bauer will follow in tomorrow and Sunday's starts. Game time tomorrow is 6:35 p.m. and Sunday is 1:05 p.m.

Meanwhile, outfielder Jaziel Mendoza is still nursing a hamstring injury and is about 10 to 14 days away from action, Trapasso said. Brent Cook will play left field this weekend.

The Bruins (2-2) had a modest two-game winning streak snapped with an 8-3 loss at UC Riverside on Tuesday. UCLA won 2-of-3 from Cal State Northridge last weekend.

Twenty of the 33 players on the UH team are new.
