By Wayne Harada

PEOPLE IN PARADISE: Paul Walker, the actor who starred in flicks such as "The Fast and the Furious," "Joy Ride" and "The Skulls," dined at Tiki's Grill & Bar the other night. The restaurant also has an on-staff celebrity of sorts — Nani Morita, merchandising manager, who had an on-camera role as a flight attendant in Adam Sandler's "Punch-Drunk Love," which was partially filmed in Hawai'i. ...

Audy Kimura and Herb Ohta Jr. have recorded together for the first time, though you can't buy the product or tell that they're the ones doing the music. Kimura ("Lovers and Friends") is the composer, guitarist, bassist and producer of a musical jingle, heard on a couple of TV commercials on The Advertiser's "Food, Fun and Fortune" and "Shop 'Till You Drop" promotions. "I brought in Herb Ohta Jr. to do an 'ukulele solo, because I've known his dad ("Ohta-san") for years, and it was the first time we worked on something together," said the Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning entertainer. The jingle was recorded at Kimura's Hawai'i Kai home studio. ...

"Magic of Polynesia" dancers Valerie Ribuca and Angeline Pereira ran an errand between shows at the Waikiki Beachcomber Hotel recently, and into Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams as he was walking alone on Kalakaua Avenue. They joined him as he made purchases at Macy's and invited him upstairs to the John Hirokawa magic show. He agreed, had a great time, and posed for photos like any good sport. ...

SHOW BITS: We messed up the other day when we mentioned TV anchor Rob Fukuzaki, who remains the sports anchor at KABC-TV in Los Angeles, where he took over the weekday anchorship last fall. He's been with the station for the past eight years and has frequently emerged in movie features typecast as an anchor. In fact, one is coming up later this year, titled "Tomorrow." ...

Singer Jerry Santos of Olomana had to have eye surgery last week, so missed some performances. Last night, for instance, pianist Rene Paulo and his daughter, Kathy Paulo, subbed for him at Chai's Island Bistro. Presumably, Santos will resume his Friday-Saturday slot at the Hilton Hawaiian Village's Paradise Lounge and the Sunday-Monday gig at Chai's. ...

The local boy who has been named weekend sports anchor at KTVK-TV in Phoenix is Ross Shimabuku, formerly of KGMB-9. ...

Harry Soria Jr., host of "Territorial Airwaves" Sundays on Hawaiian 105 KINE, got an e-mail from a listener in Atlanta, who heard the show in his car last week, inquiring if there are plans to broadcast the vintage Island sounds via shortwave. Nope. However, the program is streamed at www.hawaiian105.com. ...
