Fallen poles cause blackout

Two utility poles fell across Mamalahoa Highway near Waikoloa Road on the Big Island yesterday, knocking out power to 2,600 customers and closing the highway.

Power was restored at about 2:40 p.m., but the road remained closed while crews replaced the poles.
