"Max": A fictional account of the young Adolf Hitler (Noah Taylor) and his friendship with a one-armed Jewish art dealer (John Cusack) in Munich in the years after World War I. Opens tomorrow at the Art House at Restaurant Row. (R)

"Nicholas Nickleby": A version of the early and entertaining novel by Charles Dickens. Charles McGrath ("Emma") adapts and directs, and the cast features one typecasting coup after another. Opens tomorrow at the Art House at Restaurant Row. (PG)

"The Quiet American": In Vietnam in the early 1950s, an aging London correspondent (Michael Caine) and a cheerful young American (Brendan Fraser) are both in love with the same dance-hall girl (Do Thi Hai Yen). Based on the novel by Graham Greene. Opens tomorrow at Varsity Twin. (R)

"Soap Girl": A melodrama and love story, this is an indie film about massage-parlor workers in Los Angeles' Korea Town. Produced by Tomiko Lee and her son Dennis James Lee (both of whom also have roles in the film) of Honolulu. Opens tomorrow at the Art House at Restaurant Row. (Not rated; contains adult situations, frank language, female and male nudity.)

"Space Station": The first IMAX film from space takes a look at the International Space Station. Opens tomorrow at IMAX Waikiki. (Not rated)
