Robert L. Muller, former head of HC&D, dead at 92

Robert L. Muller, retired president and chairman of Honolulu Construction & Draying Co, died Feb. 8 in Honolulu. He was 92.

Muller was born on Aug. 23, 1910, in Oshkosh, Wis. He received a bachelor's degree in engineering at Stanford University. Later he enrolled in the Harvard University advanced management program.

Muller moved to Hawai'i in 1937 as assistant manager of Ready-Mix Concrete Co. He joined HC&D in 1943 as assistant manager and was elected a director and vice president in 1950.

In 1962, Muller was named president and manager of HC&D. He was appointed chairman of the company in 1974 and retired a year later.

In addition to his work at HC&D, Muller served on the board of C. Brewer & Co. and Hawaiian Insurance Co. He also served as chairman of the Aloha United Way and was vice president of the Aloha Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

In 1954, Muller was named to the territory's Highways Planning Commission, and he also served on the Honolulu Planning Commission.

Muller is survived by his wife, Lorna; sons, Lee and C. Michael; sister, Marianne Cyr; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

No services are planned. Donations may be made to the Punahou School R.P. Muller Student Athlete Scholarship Fund.
