Bat-wielding attacker sought

Two 22-year-old men were attacked and robbed by a man wielding an aluminum baseball bat early today at the Diamond Head Lookout.

Detective Rheynol Kosaka said one man was hit several times in the head and knocked unconscious while his companion also was struck in the head but managed to block several blows with his forearm. Both men were in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center and were expected to be released sometime today.

The two men were seated in a car shortly before 2 a.m. when they were confronted by a man with a bat, who came out of a car parked nearby. After attacking and robbing the victims, the suspect and another man left in a 1980's-model Toyota.

The officer was taken to The Queen's Medical Center to be treated for a knee injury that did not appear to be serious, police said.
