Hilo man sought in sex abuse case

Big Island police are looking for a 61-year-old man wanted in connection with a sexual assault case.

The suspect, Sione Vaka of Hilo, may have fled to O'ahu, police said. Vaka is described as 5 feet 6 and 210 pounds, with brown eyes and salt-and-pepper colored wavy hair.

Police said Vaka is diabetic and requires medication.

Two men attacked, robbed at lookout

Two 22-year-old men were attacked and robbed by a man wielding an aluminum baseball bat early yesterday at the Diamond Head Lookout.

Detective Rheynol Kosaka said one man was hit several times in the head and knocked unconscious while his companion was struck in the head but managed to block several blows with his forearm. Both men were in guarded condition at The Queen's Medical Center and were expected to be released today.

The two men were sitting in a car shortly before 2 a.m. when they were confronted by a man who came out of a parked car with his bat. After the attack and robbery, that man and another man left in a 1980s-model Toyota.



Motorcycle officer hurt in accident

A Honolulu motorcycle police officer was injured yesterday while trying to avoid hitting another vehicle in Kalihi Valley at 8:45 a.m. near Likelike Highway at Wilson Place.

The officer was taken to The Queen's Medical Center to be treated for a knee injury.
