Bargain digital training offered for nonprofits
Advertiser Staff
Nonprofit organizations are always scrambling to get hold of elusive community financing. But to be heard, you must also be seen.
With that in mind, Pacific Islanders in Communications is offering a course to help nonprofit agencies use low-cost digital technology for public-service announcements.
Steven Szabo, a digital media artist and Apple Computer-certified trainer, will teach video production and editing (including Web video).
The course runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily July 7 to July 18.
The course is valued at $1,500 but will be made available to nonprofit agencies for $200 a person. PIC will cover air travel, ground transportation and a portion of housing costs for participants coming from beyond O'ahu.
The course is open to producers working with nonprofit, Pacific islander community cultural or environmental preservation organizations in American Samoa, Guam and Hawai'i. Familiarity with digital media is preferred but not required. The organization represented should demonstrate a need for low-cost video production.
Ten trainees and three alternates will be chosen during two selection periods. Deadlines to apply are March 28 and May 2 by 5 p.m.
Applications should include a cover letter with the applicant's name and the name of the non-profit agency, a copy of the organization's IRS letter of nonprofit 501(c) (3) status, a resume and one-page personal statement explaining how participants will commit to helping their organizations through training. A letter of commitment should be sent directly by the organization to PIC, including an statement on the organization's need, capacity for video and Web site development, and plan for using the finished video. One work or school reference should be sent directly to PIC.
Applications may be sent to: Pacific Islanders in Communications, 1221 Kapi'olani Blvd., Suite 6A-4, Honolulu, HI 96814-3513; Attn: Digital Media Course. For more information, call 591-0059.
