Girl arrested in assault

A 14-year-old Kailua Intermediate student was arrested Friday for allegedly striking a 63-year-old teacher in the face, police said.

The teen was fighting with another girl on campus shortly before noon when the male teacher broke up the fight, police said.

The teen then punched the teacher in the left eye, police said. She was arrested for second-degree assault but released pending further investigation.

Jaywalker hit by truck identified

A 76-year-old woman who was fatally struck Saturday by a pickup truck on North School Street has been identified as Young She Son.

Police Sgt. William Baldwin of the vehicular homicide section said Son ran against a red light, from the south to the north side of the street near a crosswalk one-tenth of a mile north of Lanakila Avenue at about 6 p.m.

The 1983 Ford Ranger pickup, driven by a 42-year-old woman from Kailua and with an infant girl in a child-restraint seat, had the green light at the intersection, Baldwin said. Son ran into the street from the south sidewalk, disregarding the red hand signal, he said.

Son was taken in serious condition to The Queen's Medical Center, where she died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, officials said.

There was no indication that either alcohol or speed were factors in the accident, Baldwin said. Son is O'ahu's 12th traffic fatality of the year; three of those have been pedestrians.

Attack victim suffers skull fractures

A 40-year-old man suffered serious multiple skull fractures Sunday when he was repeatedly struck on the head with a 2-foot-long piece of wood during a fight on Isenberg Street in Mo'ili'ili.

Police are seeking to charge another man with attempted second-degree murder, second-degree assault and second-degree robbery in connection with the attack.

According to police, the injured man and a male companion, also 40, were confronted by three men after they parked a van on the 1000 block of Isenberg Street at 10 p.m. Sunday. After a short argument, the van's occupants went into a nearby lounge. They returned at 10:40 p.m. and found the van had been damaged.

One of the men went to look for the person he had been arguing with earlier while his companion called police. During a confrontation, the victim was knocked unconscious. His companion was also struck with the wooden object.

Police responding to the scene arrested two men. One of the two arrested was being held for second-degree robbery on suspicion that he took a watch and gold chain from the man who was unconscious, police said.

Both the victim and his companion were taken to The Queen's Medical Center. One was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

Two crash victims remain unidentified

The medical examiner's office was still trying yesterday to positively identify two women killed Saturday morning in a car crash on Roosevelt Avenue in Kalaeloa.

Coroner officials said the two women, whose ages were unknown, are believed to be from the Waipahu area. Family members were scheduled to visit the medical examiner's office yesterday in hopes of positively identifying the victims, officials said.

A man and woman injured in the same crash remained in critical condition yesterday at The Queen's Medical Center.
