UH basketball player English honored twice

Hawai'i basketball forward Carl English was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division I All-District 13 second team today.

A total of 150 athletes were named to first- or second-team honors in 15 districts, and are eligible for All-America honors at the end of the season.

Nevada's Kirk Snyder also was named to the second team. The Rainbow Warriors host the Wolf Pack tonight at the Stan Sheriff Center.

English, a junior, also was named to the Verizon Academic All-District VIII team, chosen by sports information directors.

Others on the five-member team are Jason Blair of San Diego, Trace Caton of Utah, Shawn Redhage of Arizona State and Blake Stepp of Gonzaga.

District VIII includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai'i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

The national All-Academic team will be announced March 5.

He has a 3.28 grade-point average in liberal studies.
