THE LEFT LANE
The art of prints

Advertiser Staff and News Services

A souvenir catalog, "A Tradition of Prints," which features works of the finest printmakers in Hawai'i — both past and contemporary — is being prepared to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Honolulu Printmakers group next month. Among the artists whose works are reproduced: John Kelly, Jean Charlot, Juliette May Fraser, Isami Doi, John Young, Marcia Morse, Hiroki Morinoue and Allyn Bromley. Marcia Morse edited the work which includes essays by Maz Aranov, Louise Barr, Jennifer Forte, Aggie Quigg and Laura Smith.

The book, co-published by the Honolulu Printmakers and Honolulu Academy of Arts ($24.95), will be released March 12 at the opening of the Printmakers Annual Exhibition and an Academy retrospective on printmaking arts. Information and advance orders: 536-5507.

Fitness facts

As you pursue those New Year's resolutions related to health, you may want to calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI), Maximum Heart Rate (MHR) and daily balance of calories.

Now there's a Honolulu-based Web site that helps decode these three important aspects of our health. Personal trainer Dave Chong, who operates Revelations Health Performance Enhancement on Ke'eaumoku Street and trains folks at the Honolulu Club, offers clear explanations, online calculators and charts to help us determine where we are now and where we want to go in relation to these three measurements.

The new Tiger look

Golf phenomenon Tiger Woods made a fashion statement last weekend at the Buick Invitational, wearing a slim, tailored shirt that is the latest in the logowear named for him by Nike Golf. It's called the short-sleeve mock (for mock turtleneck) and it comes in black, chianti, white and grain and sells for $55. And yes, the mock turtle is considered a collar, so is acceptable at most resorts and country club courses where collared shirts are required. Tiger's tournament pants were a single-pleat Dri-FIT microfibre pant in chino and black ($90), also from Nike.

But can you find 'em here? Unfortunately, the shirt is available now only in a long-sleeved version at NikeTown in Waikiki. The pants arrive in a spring shipment expected soon and may appear some short-sleeved shirts at that time. Information: www.nikegolf.com.
