Charges sought in theft at hotel

Police are seeking to charge a 48-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman who were arrested early Monday morning on suspicion of stealing property from a room at the Pagoda Hotel on Rycroft Street.

The suspects were seen by a couple coming out of the couple's hotel room at 3:50 a.m. The couple notified hotel security, and police were called.

Property taken from the victims' hotel room was recovered.


Tourists, guide rescued off Maui

KIHEI, Maui — Four tourists and their guide were rescued off Makena yesterday afternoon after their kayaks were blown out to sea.

A Coast Guard vessel, a Maui County Fire Department helicopter, a county lifeguard watercraft and a private boat joined in the 12:30 p.m. rescue about three miles out from 'Ahihi Bay, the starting point of the kayak tour.

Two couples, one from California and one from Oregon, and the Aloha Adventure Kayaks tour leader were escorted to safety at about 1 p.m., according to Coast Guard spokesman Erik Vega.


Man suspected of damaging cars

A 22-year-old man was arrested Monday night on suspicion of damaging two parked cars on Kuilei Street in Mo'ili'ili.

Witnesses told police the man threw large rocks at the cars, shattering their windshields, and overturned two motorcycles.

He was arrested at the scene.
