Advertiser Staff
George Chaplin |
Hawai'i residents interested in honoring Chaplin may do so with donations to the Esta and George Chaplin Scholarship Fund through Temple Emanu-El in Honolulu, the family said yesterday.
Services were set for 10 a.m. today at the BSBI Cemetery in Charleston, followed by a gathering at the home of family members.
Chaplin, who served as editor of The Advertiser for 28 years, retiring in 1986, died Sunday at the age of 88.
Chaplin, who lived with his son, Steve, and his family in McLean, Va., died from complications after a fall in which he broke his shoulder. He will be buried in Charleston next to his late wife, Esta, who died in 2001.
In addition to son Steve, Chaplin is survived by his daughter, Jerri Chaplin of Charleston; a sister, Kay Greene of New Orleans; and four grandsons.
