Advertiser Staff

Movie fans, ocean fans, island fans, mark your calendars: The story of surfer and teacher Rell Sunn is told in the film "Heart of the Sea: Kapolioka'ehukai," screening at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Doris Duke theater at the Honolulu Academy of Arts.

Sunn, who died in 1998 when she was 47 after a 14-year battle with breast cancer, was known as the Queen of Makaha. Her middle name, Kapolioka'ehukai, means "heart of the sea."

Admission is $5 general, $3 for museum members. 532-8768.

There's a screening on Moloka'i, too: 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaunakakai School cafeteria, with presentations beginning at 6. It's free.

Filmmakers Charlotte Lagarde and Lisa Denker will introduce their film and take part in a question-and-answer session at each screening.
