Hawai'i Pacific, Hilo split baseball doubleheader

The Hawai'i Pacific University and University of Hawai'i-Hilo baseball teams split a doubleheader yesterday at Simmon's Field in Kailua, Kona, with each team winning by a 4-3 score.

Both games were seven innings.

In the second game, Hilo scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh on a bases-loaded walk to Nalei Sooto.

Kaliko Oligo opened the inning with a triple to right center. The Sea Warriors intentionally walked the next two batters to load the bases and set up a force at the plate. Sooto then drew the walk.

Oligo finished the game 3-for-4 and teammate Kevin Drever went 2-for-3.

Adam Inaba picked up the win with 1¡ innings of scoreless relief.

Hawai'i Pacific's Derek Little batted 3-for-3 and Shay Hirota went 2-for-3.

In the opener, the Sea Warriors scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly by Little in the top of the seventh.

Casey Onaga was hit by a pitch to open the inning. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, and third on Scott Hunter's single. Little's flyball went to right.

The Sea Warriors trailed 3-1 after five innings.

Winner Brent Erickson pitched a complete game with three walks and two strikeouts. He gave up nine hits and hit a batter.

The Sea Warriors' Geoffrey Say batted 2-for-4 and Grandon Costa scored two runs.

Oligo, Sooto and Douglas Nassimbene each had two hits for the Vulcans.

Hawai'i Pacific moved to 4-8. Hilo is 5-25.
