UH volleyball team still ranked No. 2

After last week's split against Brigham Young University, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team retained its No. 2 ranking in the USA Today/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top-15 Poll, which was released this morning.

That sets up a meeting between the nation's top two teams when the Warriors play host to No. 1 Pepperdine tomorrow and Friday in the Stan Sheriff Center. The teams met in last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament final and the NCAA championship match.

The Waves, who are unbeaten in 10 MPSF matches this season, received 15 of the possible 16 first-place votes. UH received the other No. 1 vote. UH coach Mike Wilton said he voted Pepperdine No. 1.

"It just doesn't seem that hard," he said of his ballot.

Of the battle between the top two teams, Wilton said, "We're ready to roll."

BYU is third in the poll, followed by Lewis (of Illinois) and UC Irvine, which had been No. 1 for two weeks this season.
