Man arrested in bank robbery

Police yesterday arrested a 42-year-old man on suspicion of robbing American Savings Bank's Ala Moana branch on Jan. 30.

He was arrested at O'ahu Community Correctional Center, where he is being held for a criminal offense unrelated to the bank robbery.

Two arrested in Kailua chase

A 20-year-old man, wanted for two bail violations, was arrested yesterday after police said he was caught speeding on the wrong side of Kailua Road toward an oncoming police car. The man was also arrested on suspicion of two prohibited firearm offenses. He is accused of possessing a plastic flare gun loaded with 12-gauge shotgun ammunition.

He was arrested on Ku'ulei Road at 7 p.m. after attempting to run away.

A second man, 18, who was a passenger in the car, also ran away and was chased into the backyard of a nearby residence by a passerby. The suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the man pursuing him but surrendered when police arrived. The weapon turned out to be an air gun. The man was arrested on suspicion of first-degree terroristic threatening.

Youth escapee surrenders

After more than five months at large, the last of 10 girls who escaped from the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility in Kailua last year surrendered to police yesterday.

The 17-year-old girl turned herself in at the Kailua police station and was returned to the youth facility.

She was one of 10 teenage girls who overpowered two guards Aug. 31 and fled in a van. Eight were caught within three weeks, but the last two weren't captured until November and yesterday.
