UH football team searching season-opening opponent

Advertiser Staff

The University of Hawai'i football team was left to search for a season-opening opponent when Akron today announced it is pulling out of the contracted Aug. 30 game at Aloha Stadium.

The Zips will instead open their season Aug. 28 with Kent State on regional television.

A UH spokesman said the school will have an opponent for the Aug. 30 date, but has not yet filled the opening.

The Warriors want a home game before going on the road in back-to-back weeks with games at Southern California Sept. 13 and Nevada-Las Vegas Sept. 20.
